Weak winds in particular have curbed renewable energy production in Germany this year. The generation of renewable energies is being vigorously promoted. Not only is Germany's population ageing, but its electricity grids are also getting older: on average, they are likely to be over 40 years old soon. The energy transition poses major challenges for Europe’s electricity grids.
