Weak winds in particular have curbed renewable energy production in Germany this year. Nevertheless, green energy sources have been able to maintain their share of total generation. “The figures show that there must be no hesitation in expanding renewables“, comments Patrick Lemcke-Braselmann, Co-CEO of the aream Group.

The generation of renewable energies is being vigorously promoted. However, a large part of the energy is lost again due to curtailments. “This is both a regular and a huge waste“, comments Patrick Lemcke-Braselmann, Co-CEO of aream Group SE. At the same time, he says, the solutions to problems such as grid overloads and lack of flexibility are well known.

Not only is Germany's population ageing, but its electricity grids are also getting older: on average, they are likely to be over 40 years old soon. This is driving up energy costs and jeopardising the energy transition. “Extensive modernisation investments are inevitable in order to ensure security of supply and achieve the goals of the energy transition“, says Patrick Lemcke-Braselmann, Co-CEO of aream Group SE.

The energy transition poses major challenges for Europe’s electricity grids. New solutions and flexible control are more in demand than ever. “Experience from abroad shows that smart grids and modern technology are paving the way for a sustainable energy supply,” says Patrick Lemcke-Braselmann, Co-CEO of aream Group SE.
