Last February was another outlier month: far too warm, far too dry and far too sunny by long-term standards. What caused losses in many winter sports regions made solar energy yields shine. "On the one hand, the accumulation of unusual weather phases is making us increasingly aware of the problem of climate change", says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of aream Group. "At the same time, it's becoming clear that if we don't want to rely on the weather to make the switch to climate-friendly energies, the expansion must be driven forward quickly."
Renewable energies are facing golden times. Although this is now considered a truism, the opportunities are still often underestimated. This is because politicians are driving the energy turnaround forward with billions, while at the same time the demand for electricity is growing and the production costs for renewables are falling ever lower. "In view of persistently high electricity prices, the production of green electricity is becoming increasingly lucrative and thus less dependent on government subsidies", says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group.
Since December last year, electricity producers have had to cede shares of their profits to the grid operators. With this “excess profits tax”, the federal government in Germany wants to counter-finance the subsidies of electricity and gas prices for end consumers. A review of the first two months shows: For aream’s plants, the profit levy was moderate in December, and in January it was even absent. “In the future, the profit tax could take effect again due to higher electricity prices”, says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group. Overall, however, the earnings outlook remains good.
The transformation of global energy systems is progressing at a breathtaking pace. Last year, investments in green technologies worldwide exceeded those in fossil energies for the first time. Europe is playing a leading role in this. "Politicians and private investors have recognized the signs of the times", says Markus W. Voigt, CEO of the aream Group. Driven by government support measures, spending is likely to reach new records in the coming years.
